PTA Board Meeting October 21, 2009

 

Meeting called to order at 7:40pm.

 

Principal Report:

-H1N1 Report for FCPS.

-Budget – Shortfall this  year of $146 million. May increase class size from 26.5 to 27.5 next year. FHES may lose one more teacher. Important that parents get involved by writing letters to the FCPS Board of Supervisors.

-School clinic suggest sending books for the classroom as birthday celebrations gifts instead of cupcakes. PTA will discuss with teachers.

 

Assistant Principal Report:

-ecart testing for 3rd-6th grade starts in Nov ends in March, cumulative content, ongoing assessment

-Cogats for 2nd grade just finished in October.

 

President Report:

-Website can be populated with committee pages, we need a webmaster

-Volunteer survey is on website for parents to complete

-Directory will be out next week

-Computer lab is open on Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 for any parents that do not have computer access at home

 

Committee Reports:

Sally Foster-Melanie Bryan-PTA made 13-14K this year.

 

Green Team-Dawn Brower-Have a 5K grant from Lowes. Moved mulch to courtyard to form compost pile. Planted daffodil bulbs in garden boxes. Working on a reading garden. Courtyard will give teachers opportunity to teach outside 1 hour per week. May bring in a speaker from Nature by Design and a tree commissioner to identify trees to help with outside space.

 

Show What You Know-Jane Miscavage-March 24th is the date. Need committee members and grade level liaisons.

 

Box tops-Suzanne Bowers-Winning class got pizza party. Next collection date will be in Feb.

 

Grace Art-Sammye Justice-Projects by MC Escher were hung in cafeteria and walls outside classroom.

 

Publishing center-Still need more volunteers for interviewing.

 

Positive Behavior Support-Dot Artz-Meeting Sept 28, teacher reps from each grade level. Would like to see better accountability for falcon feathers. Need tangible ways to reward good behavior that is appropriate for all grades.

 

Recycling-Kristin Rothrock-In addition to ink cartridges that are collected in the office, we will be collecting other electronics such as cell phones and laptops. Possible recycling of juice bags.

 

School Magnets- approve design and will sell for $5.

PTA GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

September 17, 2009

 

Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm.

 

Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Vote to approve minutes from June 11, 2009 PTA general meeting. Minutes were approved.

 

President Mary Forde reminded parents the PTA website is going through some upgrades. We will soon be able to register and pay online for afterschool programs and the school directory. The volunteer survey and Tuesday folders will be online.

 

Treasurer Yoora Pak presented the FHES PTA budget. It was approved for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

Sally foster gift wrap presentation. Incentives are 15 items get an inflatable guitar, 25 items enter in a raffle, and 35 items enter the money machine.

 

Stu Gibson- Hunter Mill Rep for the FCPS board discussed 2010/2011 FCPS budget.

Possible cuts of $100-$200 million. Please go to a planning meeting to voice your opinion.

 

June 11, 2009 (general meeting)

PTA GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm.

Vote to approve minutes from Jan. 22, 2009 PTA general meeting. Minutes were approved.

President Mary Forde thanked the parents for their patience with going green and supporting the PTA programs.
FCPS budget is $2.2 billion.

High schools have switched to a 10 point grading scale.

Flint Hill’s new start time will be 8:40 am for the school year 09/10.

PTA would like to thank the staff and front office.
